SHA Extends Closure of Isabella Street in Salisbury by One Week

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- The Maryland State Highway Administration is continuing the temporary closure of Isabella Street that is currently in effect until Friday, June 28.

According to the SHA, the extended closure is necessary because of unexpected delays from working around old brick foundations and utilities uncovered during the installation of the new manholes.

Crews will temporarily open traffic to Isabella Street from June 29 through July 8 as the SHA prepares for the second phase of the drainage improvement project. Crews will then close Isabella Street between Lake Street and Mill Street for a second time, 24 hours a day, for a three-week period from Monday, July 9 until Friday, July 29, weather permitting.

The SHA said that for the temporary detour through June 28, motorists traveling west on East Isabella Street will turn south and proceed on Mill Street to US 50 Business (Salisbury Parkway). Motorists traveling east on East Isabella Street will turn south onto Lake Street and proceed to U.S. 50 Business.

Beginning July 9, additional work on Isabella Street will also require crews to  close the intersection of West Isabella Street and Mill Street for drain pipe installation. During the second street closure, the SHA said it will initiate a detour directing eastbound traffic on West Isabella Street to turn south on Lake Street, continue eastbound on U.S. 50 to North Division Street, then travel north back to East Isabella Street.

The SHA said will detour westbound traffic in the reverse direction and use concrete barriers, variable message signs, warning signs and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

The SHA said that throughout the three-week street closure, access to residents and businesses on Isabella Street will remain open. Motor vehicle access to homes and businesses on West Isabella Street, west of the railroad tracks at Mill Street, will be available using Lake Street and West Isabella Street. Motor vehicle access to homes on West Isabella Street, east of the railroad tracks at Mill Street, will be available using North Division Street and West Isabella Street.

Access to businesses on Mill Street will be available at all times to motorists traveling from U.S. 50. The SHA said it is working with the City of Salisbury to ensure there is minimal disruption of public utilities to property owners during the project.
