Man Goes to Prison for Assaulting Salisbury Cop

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man on Tuesday was sentenced to eight years behind bars for assaulting a city police officer.

The Wicomico State's Attorney's Office said that 29-year-old Karond Anthony Johnson was convicted of two counts of second-degree assault for assaulting Salisbury Police Officer Brandon Caton during the course of two separate arrests, one occurring Dec. 9, 2011, and the other occurring on Feb. 24, 2012.  A Wicomico County Circuit Court judge sentenced Johnson to serve two consecutive  four-year sentences in the Maryland Division of Corrections.

Prosecutors said that at the time of both assaults, Caton was attempting to place Johnson under arrest for serious traffic violations when Johnson resisted the arrest by force.

Caton did not suffer any injuries during the course of either assault, according prosecutors said.
