WESTOVER, Md.- For many disabled veterans, help comes in the form of service dogs. Now, some of Maryland's incarcerated will become dog trainers.
The partnership between the state's prison agency and American's VetDogs will help wounded warriors get their four-legged companions.
About 20 puppies will arrive at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover sometime next month.
"I've given up my freedom and taken advantage of it. And (the soldiers) fought for it," said ECI inmate Steffan Farmer. "It's the least I can do to give back to society."
Local veterinarians will donate their time to the program.
