MELFA, Va.- The Accomack County Board of Supervisors wants to dissolve the Accomack County Airport Commission. Some supervisors feel there is a conflict of interest since the airport commission sets the prices for hangers and gasoline while the majority of the commission's members are pilots.

Supervisor Wanda Thornton said she and another supervisor were asked to review all boards and commissions in the county. She said they felt it was a good decision to dissolve the airport commission after their review.

"We brought it back to the board and there was a discussion that ensued within the board and the board decided that they would like to just dissolve the commission and put it under the county administrator," Thornton said.

Supervisor Ron Wolff said he does not believe it would be a good idea to completely dissolve the commission because it possesses a lot more expertise on how the airport should function as opposed to the county administrator.

"I think that they can be used maybe effectively as an advisory committee to the director of the airport," Wolff said. "So, I think that their capacity is still very useful."

A final decision has not been made on the complete dissolution of the airport commission.  The topic will be discussed at the next Accomack County Board of Supervisors meeting on July 18.
