One Dead, Another Critical After Cambridge Crash

CAMBRIDGE, Md.— Cambridge police say one man died and another is listed in critical condition following a bizarre accident that occurred on Tuesday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, police and Dorchester County EMS responded to the area of Washington Street and Dorchester Avenue for a reported serious motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.

According to police, an investigation revealed that 42-year-old Matthew J. Larmore of Cambridge had been walking his dog when the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck, identified as 65-year-old Robert W. Ridgeway Sr. of Cambridge, suffered an apparent heart attack.

Authorities said the vehicle was traveling west and veered off the roadway, hitting both Larmore and the dog. Officers said they found Larmore suffering from serious head injuries and his dog lying in the roadway, dead.

According to invesatigators, Ridgeway was suffering an apparent heart attack when police arrived. Officers said they provided CPR and first-aid to both men until EMS personnel arrived to transport Ridgeway and Larmore from the scene.

Larmore was flown to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del., he is listed in critical condition. Ridgeway died at Dorchester General Hospital, according to police.

The Cambridge Police Department is investigating the crash.
