HARTLY, Del.— Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Hartly late Wednesday evening.
Authorities said 33-year-old Christopher M. Callaway of Camden was driving a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck south on Hourglass Road at around 10:05 p.m. when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Hourglass and Halltown Road. Troopers said the truck struck the passenger's side of a westbound 2006 Nissan Sentra operated by 54-year-old Sadel L. Hawkins of Lanham, Md.
According to investigators, the truck turned clockwise in the road before stopping and the Nissan landed in a ditch on the south side of Halltown Road. Traffic in the area of the crash was impacted for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
Police said Callaway was not properly restrained and was flown by DSP helicopter to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities said Hawkins and all her passengers, a 61-year-old woman from Hyattsville, Md., a 63-year-old woman from Louisa, Va., and a 12-year-old girl from Dover, had been properly restrained and were transported to Kent General Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
