2 Charged With Selling Stolen Goods as Scrap Metal

SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury police have arrested two men accused of selling stolen property as scrap material.

Police said that on Tuesday morning officers responded to a reported theft on the 400 block of Lake Street. The complainant told police that he had heard property was being stolen from one of his rental units.

Upon further investigation, officers said the suspects in the thefts had taken a refrigerator, stove, and water heater from an apartment.

Officers arrested 49-year-old Lonnie E. Montague, of Fruitland, Md., and 24-year-old Christopher E. Williams, of Salisbury, Md. Officers said the men were selling the stolen material as scrap to Salisbury Steel.

Both men were charged with first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary, as well as theft of under $1,000. Police are reporting that Montague was also wanted for violation of parole.

Both men were allegedly released to the custody of Wicomico Central Booking.
