REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Authorities say a 24-year-old Tulsa, Okla., man was hospitalized after a sand tunnel he was digging at Rehoboth Beach collapsed on top of him.
Rehoboth Beach police say officers, along with firefighters, EMS, and members of the city's beach patrol responded to the scene at around 2:25 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, an investigatioin revealed that the victim had dug two large holes and a tunnel connecting them. Police said the man then attempted to crawl through the tunnel when it collapsed and buried him. The man, who was initially unconscious, regained consciousness and was transported to Beebe Hospital via ambulance for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital.
Police want to remind the public of the dangers of these types of acts. They said holes should generally be no deeper than the knees of the smallest person in the group.
