EASTON, Md. (AP)— Talbot County officials are asking residents to avoid burning anything during the current heat wave to lower the risk of fire.
County officials said the area has had a number of ground cover fires recently started by controlled burns or fireworks, including two brush fires in the Tunis Mills area this week.
Easton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jamie McNeal said that the ground is extremely dry and it takes very little to start a fire that rapidly can get out of control.
The request is not an outright ban, but Talbot County Manager John Craig said he plans to talk with the county council about legislation to implement a burn ban.
