SALISBURY, Md.— Authorities say a Salisbury woman ended up in the hospital Friday morning after her spouse unintentionally shot her in the leg.
Salisbury police said officers and detectives responded to Peninsula Regional Medical Center's Emergency Room at around 10:50 a.m. for a woman being treated for a gunshot wound.
According to police, the victim stated she had been sitting in the living room of her home on the 1000 block of Bayshore Court while her husband was in an adjoining room removing papers from a security box containing his personal firearm. Detectives said the woman's husband went to unload the .38 Special revolver and unintentionally fired a round that went through a door, a wall, and an entertainment center before striking the victim in her lower left leg.
Officials said the victim's husband transported her to PRMC. After interviewing the victim, the victim's spouse, the ER physician, and meeting with the crime scene investigator, detectives determined that the firing of the firearm was unintentional.
