








Salisbury, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds (4-11) held the Hickory Crawdads (12-4) to four hits, but fell 5-2 on Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The
Crawdads scored four runs in the second inning against Williams
Louico. The first three hitters reached on a single and two walks.
Jordan Akins grounded to first to plate the first run. Nick Urbanus
singled to left field to score two runs. The second runner, Kellin
Deglan knocked the ball out of the glove of Wynston Sawyer on a feet
first slide to give the Crawdads a 3-0 lead. Then, Rougned Odor singled
into left field to score Urbanus.
The Crawdads did not record another hit until the first batter of the ninth inning.
The
Shorebirds cut into the deficit in the sixth inning. Brenden Webb, who
walked twice, reached on a walk. Then, Nicky Delmonico launched a
two-run home run to right field in his first game since June 26.
Louico settled down after giving up four runs in the second and did not allow a hit over next 3.1 innings.
The
Crawdads tacked on a run in the ninth inning. Jorge Alfaro hit a
triple to right-center field and scored during a rundown in between
first and second base.
Zach Fowler surrendered just one hit and one run over 2.2 innings pitched. It was the first earned run he has allowed since April 28.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game four of the series on Saturday night at 6:00pm. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
