OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Ocean City merchants would be wise to check the cash they're being handed by customers.
Police are looking for two teenagers who they say have been trying to pass off counterfeit $20 bills at different Boardwalk shops.
Authorities said the boys tried to spend the fake cash at four different shops last week. It failed in three of the four instances, though police say a counterfeit $20 bill did get passed at one unidentified business.
A police spokeswoman declined to name any of the businesses.
Police say the most common way money is faked is when someone bleaches a lower denomination bill and reprints a higher denomination on the paper.
