CAMDEN, Del.- Delaware State Police say a man suffered critical injuries after being struck by a car in Camden early Tuesday.
According to police, the accident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, as 61-year-old Beverly A. Fletcher of Dover was operating a Honda CRX northbound in the right lane of South DuPont Highway (U.S. Route 13) south of Lochmeath Way. Troopers said 34-year-old Andrew R. Gilman of Dover was walking from the median in an easterly direction crossing the northbound lanes when the CRX struck Gilman in the right lane.
Fletcher was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop after the crash, according to police. Gilman was thrown to the ground upon impact and was later removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Kent General Hospital. He was then transferred to Christiana Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.
Fletcher, who police said was properly restrained, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Kent General Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The roadway was shut down for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
According to police, Gilman was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a light at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
