DOVER, Del.- Setup for the Firefly Music Festival at The Woodlands at Dover Downs International Speedway is already mapped out and ready to go. The festival starts July 20.
"A lot of the work up to this point has been putting in the operational items, the roads around the perimeter, the fencing and the tents," said Greg Bostrom, the festival director.
Some of the features of the festival include a vineyard with local wine and a brewery tent, featuring 180 kegs of "Firefly Ale" brewed by Dogfish Head.
Building of the main stage will start Thursday with tents and other structures going up until then. Unlike the NASCAR races at Dover Downs, the Firefly Music Festival will not have people camping out days before.
"Starting on Friday morning we'll have our first guests arriving and we'll have them here all weekend," Bostrom said.
Dover Downs' director of engineering and safety is coordinating with Delaware State Police, the Delaware Department of Transportation and paramedics for 24-hour medical attention, traffic direction and protection.
It's quiet and bare now but on July 20, it will not look anything like that. But organizers said they are ready.
"Similar festivals in their maturity bring upwards of $10 million a year to the local economy, so were excited to contribute in that way," Bostrom said.
