WBOC' NewsWatcher Jody Ewan captured video footage of the fire that destroyed a home in Bethany Beach early Thursday.
BETHANY BEACH, Del.- Flames lit up the sky in Bethany Beach overnight in a bizarre case of a home catching fire twice in the same evening.
At around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters put out a small fire on the side of a beachfront house located in Bethany Dunes, a private subdivision. But hours later, at around 3:25 a.m. Thursday, a second fire broke out, which left the home in ruins.
It took firefighters from Bethany Beach and several other southeast Sussex County fire companies several hours to get the blaze under the control. The second fire spread to two adjacent homes, which left both structures severely damaged. Debris was also strewn in the yards of several neighbors.
There were no reported injuries.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of both fires. Bethany Beach Fire Company PIO Joe Hopple noted that while the first fire was extinguished it may have rekindled, resulting in the second fire.
