SALISBURY, Md. - The Wicomico County Council on Thursday evening unanimously voted to adopt Legislative Bill 2012-7, which authorizes the county to borrow $12.5 million toward the construction of Bennett Middle School for the 2013 fiscal year.
The council held a special legislative session and public hearing for the bill. Wicomico County Board of Education President Ron Willey said the council's decision is yet another step closer to the new middle school.
"I'm thrilled to death with the vote," he said. "Tonight this is a major step forward for our school system and for the citizens of our county...and I honestly believe the majority of citizens of this county want us to move forward."
On Sept. 18 there will be another meeting for the council to adopt the bond resolution in order to sell the bond to receive the funds.
