OCEAN CITY, Md.— Ocean City police arrested two men accused of stealing a lifeguard chair and putting it in Coastal Highway's bus lane early Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the area of 139th Street and Coastal Highway at around 3:45 a.m. for a reported case of disorderly conduct and the possible theft of a lifeguard chair. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a lifeguard chair near the bus lane on the northbound side of Coastal Highway.

According to officers, witnesses said they saw five men carry the lifeguard stand from the beach and set it in the road. Investigators said three of the suspects fled the area when police arrived, but officers found the other two in the area of 138th Street.

Twenty-four-year-old Matthew J. Winemiller of Whiteford, Md., and 24-year-old Michael A. Albert of Port Deposit, Md., were arrested and charged with theft and disorderly conduct.

Both men were released on their own personal recognizance.
