CAMDEN, Del.- Delaware State Police say a man has died as the result of injuries he suffered after being struck by a car in Camden earlier this week.
According to police, 34-year-old Andrew R. Gilman of Dover, died at 12:08 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Christiana Hospital.
Troopers said Gilman's death stemmed from an accident that occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, as 61-year-old Beverly A. Fletcher of Dover was operating a Honda CRX northbound in the right lane of South DuPont Highway (U.S. Route 13), south of Lochmeath Way. Troopers said Gilman was walking from the median in an easterly direction crossing the northbound lanes when the CRX struck him in the right lane.
Fletcher was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop after the crash, but Gilman was thrown to the ground upon impact, according to police. He was later removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Kent General Hospital. He was then transferred to Christiana Hospital where he was listed in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries on Friday.
Fletcher, who police said was properly restrained, was taken to Kent General Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
According to police, Gilman was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a light at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
