TANGIER ISLAND, Va.- A Wicomico County man is dead after the boat he was on collided with a navigation beacon near Tangier Island on Friday night.
A Virginia Marine Resources Commission spokesman identifies the victim as 37-year-old David Bromley of Pittsville. They says Bromley was the passenger on a 25-foot boat driven by 51-year-old Robert White, also of Pittsville.
According to the VRMC, the two men were returning from a fishing trip off of Tangier Island to Crisfield when White steered into a day marker around 10:15 p.m. A VRMC spokesman says White had been following a lit buoy, and appears to have not seen the day marker in the channel.
Officials tell WBOC emergency responders from Accomack County arrived on scene and aided the caller. The United States Coast Guard Sector Baltimore said crews performed CPR on Bromley, who was non-responsive and pronounced dead on the scene.
White was taken to McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield by the USCG, where he was treated for a broken arm.
Investigators say there is no sign alcohol was a factor in this crash.
The VRMC continues to investigate this boating incident off of Tangier Island.
