New Del. Law Aimed at Employing Disabled

Posted:

DOVER, Del. (AP)- Gov. Jack Markell is signing a bill aimed at improving employment opportunities for the disabled in Delaware.

The bill to be enacted into law Monday requires that state agencies providing services to people with disabilities consider, as a first option, competitive employment for the disabled.

But officials say it does not require an employer to give preference to hiring persons with disabilities.

State agencies will be required to coordinate and collaborate in efforts to comply with the law, which establishes an oversight commission as part of the state Council for Persons with Disabilities.
