SALISBURY, Md.— A Wicomico County man is being held without bond following accusations that he raped a woman early Friday morning outside of Salisbury.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said that at around 2 a.m. Friday, a deputy responded to a reported rape that was reported to have occurred on Crooked Oak Lane near Nanticoke Road. According to police, the victim said she had been raped on a dirt road off of Crooked Oak Lane. Police said that after the incident, a motorist who was passing through the area picked up the victim and gave her shelter until police arrived.
Investigators said the deputy found the suspect, 31-year-old Handy T. Cornish of Parsonsburg, sitting in a car at the alleged crime scene and investigators confirmed that both the suspect and the car matched the descriptions given by the victim. Police said the investigating deputy observed the victim's condition and behavior were also consistent with her account.
Cornish was charged with first-degree rape and ordered held without bond in the Wicomico County Detention Center.
