DOVER, Del.— Wesley College head volleyball coach Juli Greep has announced that eight incoming freshman, including five from the State of Delaware, will be added to the 2012 roster this fall.
Additions include Danielle Gehr, Raven Hughey, Tatum Jones, Meghan Marshall, Paige Morris, Khadijah Sanders, Samantha Weber, and Celte Weaver.
A defensive specialist and libero from Denver, Pa., Gehr (top row, second from left) was a Second Team All-Conference selection and led the Cocalico Lady Eagles in digs each of the past three years.
Hughey (bottom left) was a three-year starter at Perryville High School in Maryland and led the team in kills and aces as the Panthers went 13-3 in 2011.
At five-foot-11, Jones (top left) was on the first volleyball team at Sussex Tech which started three years ago. She served as the team captain and started each season at Tech.
Marshall (top right) is a graduate of Padua Academy and helped the Pandas to back-to-back State Quarterfinals at libero. An All-State and All-Catholic selection, Marshall was a three-year starter.
A local middle blocker/outside hitter from Smyrna, Del., Morris (top row, second from right) was a three-year starter at Smyrna High School and will also play softball for the Wolverines.
Hailing from the Charm City of Baltimore, Sanders (bottom row, second from left) was a three-year starter at defensive specialist/libero at Western High School. This past season, Sanders helped WHS to an 11-2 mark while serving 47 aces and averaging over four digs a set.
Another local product from Camden, Del., Weaver (bottom row, second from right) played two seasons at outside hitter for Caesar Rodney and averaged over two kills per set for the State Tournament qualifiers.
The Christiana High School Female Athlete of the Year, Weber (bottom right) directed the Lady Vikings offense the last four seasons and tallied 200 assists as a senior. Weber was captain of both the volleyball and softball programs at CHS and plans to play both sports for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines open the season at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational, hosted by Moravian on August 31-September 1, where they will take on Kings (Pa.) and the host Greyhounds on the opening night. Wesley's home opener is scheduled for Sept.12 against Capital Athletic Conference rival St. Mary's.
