LEWES, Del.– Authorities are investigating a house fire in Lewes that sent one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said that the blaze occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, July 13, at a home located on the 16000 block of John Rowland Trail in Paynter's Mill Estates.
The Lewes Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by the Milton and Rehoboth Beach fire departments. Upon arrival they encountered smoke showing.
When firefighters went inside the home, they found its only occupant in the kitchen and brought the victim to safety. The victim was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the home.
Investigators said the home was equipped with working smoke detectors. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
