KENT ISLAND, Md.- (AP)- Officials suspect that a fire that burned nearly 50 acres of land on Kent Island and forced the evacuation of 20 homes started at a marijuana farm.
Monte Mitchell of the state Department of Natural Resources Forest Service says that investigators found what may be a marijuana-growing operation. Mitchell says a Queen Anne's County drug task force has taken over the investigation of the marijuana farm.
The June 24 fire required at least 200 firefighters to extinguish it. Weeks later, the fire is still burning, but contained. Dry weather has kept the fire from burning itself out.
