








Charleston, WV – The Delmarva Shorebirds
(10-16) used two home runs and strong pitching to win game one of the
doubleheader 3-2 at Appalachian Power Park on Friday night. Game two of
the doubleheader was suspended in the bottom of the third with the
Power in front 7-1. The game will be resumed at 6:05pm on Saturday, July 21. The Shorebirds and Power will play a seven inning game after the completion of the suspended game.
In
game one, the Power scored the first two runs of the game in the second
and third innings. In the second, Dan Gamache doubled and scored on a
two out single by Elias Diaz. In the third inning, Jose Osuna hit a
single up the middle to score Taylor Lewis.
The
Shorebirds battled back. Jerome Pena led off the fourth inning with a
solo home run to left-center field. It was his first home run with the
Shorebirds and second of the year. Nicky Delmonico followed with a
sharp grounder through the right side of the infield. Michael Ohlman
walked. After Brenden Webb walked to load the bases, Jason Esposito
grounded out to third to score Delmonico.
In
the fifth inning, Sammie Starr launched his third home run of the
season to left-center field to put the Shorebirds in front 3-2.
Miguel Chalas earned his ninth win of the season over five strong innings. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs.
Zach Petersime entered in the sixth inning and yielded just two hits and no runs.
In
game two, Glynn Davis reached on an error in the first and scored on a
throwing error to third base by the catcher on an attempted steal of
third.
The Power
scored twice in the second and five times in the third to build a 7-1
lead. The game was called before the Shorebirds came back out on the
field for the third inning.
The Shorebirds and Power will resume the suspended game on Saturday, July 21 at 6:05pm.
