DELAWARE CITY, Del. (AP) - PBF Energy has put on hold a $1 billion Delaware City Refinery expansion project.
The company says it's instead focused on shorter-term initiatives, including a new $50 million to $60 million venture to move the majority of its crude oil deliveries to rail cars instead of tanker ships.
The News Journal of Wilmington says the company had delayed submitting environmental permit applications for new "Clean Fuels" units to produce ultra-low diesel oil and sulfur heating. The company had earlier said that it needed to move quickly on the permits.
Officials with Gov. Jack Markell's administration said they were encouraged by the company's changing plans.
PBF purchased the refinery in 2010.
