The Hickory Crawdads (18-13) scored four runs in the fourth inning and
defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds (12-18) 8-1 at LP Frans Stadium on Monday night. The Shorebirds managed just two hits over the final five innings.
The
Crawdads scored first in the third inning. Jordan Akins reached on an
error by Jason Esposito. Then, he was caught in a rundown between first
and second, but a high throw by Sammie Starr allowed Akins to reach
second. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Adams.
The
Crawdads built a 5-0 lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Rougned
Odor hit a triple and scored on a single by Zach Cone early in the
inning. Later, Jorge Alfaro hit a two run double to right-center field.
The
Shorebirds scored their lone run in the fifth inning. Sammie Starr
reached on an error by third baseman Drew Robinson. He scored from
first on a double off the right-center field wall by Mikey Planeta.
Shorebirds
starter Zach Davies allowed six hits and five runs over five innings.
Davies struck out the side in the second and allowed four of the six
total hits in one inning.
Crawdads
starter Andrew Faulkner earned the win over seven innings. He did not
allow an earned run. Taylor Dennis and Daniel Lopez combined to close
out the Shorebirds over the final two innings.
Hickory scored three runs in the seventh to add cushion to their lead.
Michael Ohlman was the only Shorebirds player with multiple hits. He went 2-for-3 with a walk.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game two of the series on Tuesday at 7:00pm. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
