WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - State officials are adding an extra layer of financial protection for children in Delaware's foster care system.
Gov. Jack Markell planned to sign a bill on Wednesday that requires the state to request an annual credit report for every child in its custody, beginning when the child turns 16.
The bill also requires the Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families to inspect the credit report for possible identity theft.
The new also allows youth who age out of the department's custody but who opt to receive additional support services to also receive credit report assistance through age 21.
