SALISBURY, Md.- Many people turned out to support the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain in Salisbury, as well as other Chick-fil-A's across Delmarva, after the chain's founder, Sam Truett Cathy, received backlash from supporters of same-sex marriage and civil unions when he openly admitted he does not support gay marriage.
In July, Boston mayor Thomas Menino wrote a letter to the President of Chick-Fil-A, Dan Cathy, urging the restaurant chain to, "back out of your plans to locate in Boston."
Many waited in line at the Chick-fil-A on North Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury for more than an hour to show support.
"The wait didn't mean anything to me," said Sandy Pryor of Seaford. "Actually, I spent the entire time waiting crying because I was overwhelmed with emotion and the support. People are waiting so patiently and being so kind to one another."
Some say said turnout was so great for the business because the owner of Chick-fil-A stood for what he believes in.
"His business is booming because he has been obedient and supports what he believes to be truth and I support that in a time that we need to have absolute truth," said Kim Baker of Delmar.
People who oppose Cathy's views plan to hold a boycott of Chick-fil-A on Friday, Aug. 3, calling it a "Kiss In."
