UD Women's Volleyball Recognized for Excellence in the Classroom

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Delaware women's volleyball team has been recognized for great work in the classroom with the AVCA Team Academic Award.

The Blue Hens maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.38, higher than any other athletic program at the school. It is also the highest since coach Bonnie Kenny came to the school 10 years ago.

Since the 1992-1993 season, the American Volleyball Coaches Association has given the award to teams who maintain a 3.30 GPA if on a four point scale, or 4.10 if on a five point scale. A record 533 teams made the cut last year, topping the previous record of 481, which was set in the 2010-2011 season.

Delaware posted a 21-13 record last year, winning the Colonial Athletics Association regular season and tournament titles. George Mason was the only other CAA team to win the award.

The Blue Hens will begin pre-season camp next week, and will open up the 2012 season on August 24 against San Diego State.
