OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City police say a suspect wanted in connection with a late Friday afternoon armed robbery is now in custody.
Police said Monday afternoon that Charles Richard Condon, 19, is in the custody of law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania. There is no word yet on what charges he faces and when he will be returned to Maryland to face charges.
Condon was wanted in connection with an incident that occurred at around 5 p.m. Friday. Ocean City police said officers were monitoring the Maryland State Police radio frequency when they heard a call for a report of an armed robbery with shots fired in the area of Routes 50 and 589. The report said to be on the lookout for a blue Chevrolet with Pennsylvania registration. Police said that after the broadcast, the car was spotted traveling north in the area of 77th Street and Coastal Highway. Police said when officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of 80th Street, the suspects' vehicle failed to stop.
Police said that during a brief pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour on Coastal Highway and eventually struck another vehicle on the 10th block of 120th Street while attempting to turn right. Police believe that at some point during that chase, Condon fled from the vehicle in the area of 100 Street.
Police said that after the crash, four of the five suspects involved in the pursuit fled the scene on foot, however, were apprehended moments later by officers and bystanders. Police identify the suspects as one female juvenile, Sarah Jean Gryskevicz, 19, of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Antonio Lee Suarez, 18, of Allentown, Pa., and Payne Stewart Prasnikar, 21, of Stillwater, Pa.
Police say during the initial investigation, officers learned that the vehicle was stolen Aug. 2, in a robbery in Pennsylvania.
