Delmar Moves Toward New Public Safety Building

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, Md. (AP)- A town that straddles the Delaware-Maryland border has moved closer to converting its former town hall building into a public safety facility.

The Delmar, Md., Commissioners and the Delmar, Del., Council agreed in preliminary votes last week to allow each side to borrow money to renovate the building.

Delmar, Md., Mayor Carl Anderton says the current facility is "antiquated" and the new one would give the police department three times as much space.

The Maryland side of the town seeks to borrow up to $600,000, while Delaware will ask for a loan of up to $400,000.

A public hearing is scheduled before a second vote on the legislation during the Aug. 27 joint council meeting.
