FENWICK ISLAND, Del.- Delaware State Police say a bicyclist was injured after he struck a car in Fenwick Island late Saturday afternoon.

Police said the incident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. as 54-year-old Beth H. Midgett of Lititz, Pa., was operating a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SW westbound on Lighthouse Road (SR54) preparing to turn left onto Madison Avenue. Troopers said that meantime, 31-year-old Christopher M. McGervey of Ocean City, Md., was traveling westbound on a bicycle in the eastbound shoulder approaching Madison Avenue. Police said that as Midgett turned onto Madison Avenue, McGervey struck the left front of the Mercedes, causing him to be ejected off the bicycle and onto the roadway.

McGervey was removed from the scene by LifeNet and airlifted to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Midgett and her 16-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash, according to police.

The roadway was closed for approximately an hour as the helicopter utilized the road to land.  Police said the investigation into this crash is continuing and charges are pending.
