Sussex County Boy Suffers From Chromosome Disorder

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORD, Del.- A 6-year-old boy has the developmental abilities more like that of a 6-month-old child. It is because of a genetic abnormality.

"He was about 6-months-old, I realized he wasn't developing like a normal infant should," said mom Danielle Twigg about her son Layne.

Layne has an addition as well as a deletion in Chromosome 11. According to the National Institutes of Health, the genes are critical for development. Twigg spoke with WBOC so that she could relate others to her experience and perhaps help shed a light on her son's issues. Layne deals with hip pain, chronic ear infections and other symptoms.

"It's just very difficult not knowing, not being able to speak to anybody that can relate to our situation," Twigg added.

Geneticists have looked at Layne's condition. He is due for another surgery soon at Alfred I. Dupont Hospital in Wilmington.
