BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Two local men and one Missouri man have been arrested following an investigation into the sale of the illegal designer drug commonly referred to as K2.
Bridgeville police told WBOC they received a tip about three weeks ago of the possible sale of synthetic marijuana from local stores. Police say they passed the information on to Delaware's Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement. Police say DATE undercover agents bought K2 several times during the investigation at M&M Stop and Liberty Gas Mart. Search warrants were obtained for both stores and were executed on Friday night.
Police say 26 packets of K2, as well as $3,362 in cash, various counterfeit items, and pirated CDs were seized by DATE agents at M&M Stop. Police say 28-year-old Sajjad Hussain of Federalsburg, Md., was arrested at the convenience store for both possession with intent to distribute a controlled or counterfeit substance and for trademark counterfeiting. Hussain is being held on $3,500 secured bond at Sussex Correctional Institution.
Agents seized an additional 62 packets of K2 and $901 in cash from Liberty Gas Mart. Police say 53-year-old Kuljit Singh of Bridgeville was charged for possession with intent to distribute a controlled or counterfeit substance and maintaining a drug property. Singh is being held at SCI on $7,000 secured bond.
On Wednesday, DATE agents intercepted a delivery of K2 intended for the M&M Stop. Police say 767 grams of K2 was seized, at a street value of $5,369, and $25,280 in cash. Police have charged 46-year-old Afzal Choudhry of Missouri with drug dealing. Choudhry is accused of transporting and delivering the K2 to make an illegal sale in Bridgeville.
John Yeomans, the director of the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, told WBOC they're still investigating this case.
"We're still, as we speak, looking at the different leads associated with today's arrest and the information we've gathered," Yeomans said. "We're still working with law enforcement officials between here and the state of Missouri to see if there were potentially any sales at other establishments."
