RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware's men's soccer squad was named No. 3 in a preseason poll conducted by the Colonial Athletic Association.
The poll had coaches in the conference rank the best teams, and this No. 3 ranking is the highest the Blue Hens have received since joining the conference in 2002.
Delaware was only beat out by pre-season favorite Old Dominion and James Madison. The CAA has been regarded as one of the most competitive men's soccer conferences in the nation.
The Blue Hens, led by coach Ian Hennessy, put up a 13-6-4 record in 2011, as well as the squad's first-ever CAA Tournament title when they knocked off Northeastern. UD is also optimistic because they have several players coming back for the 2012 campaign, including Vincent Mediate and Yoan Fontaine.
The top six teams in the CAA will advance to the conference tournament come November.
