House Fire Displaces Wicomico County Family

Updated:

QUANTICO, Md.– A fire at a house in western Wicomico County displaced a family of five on Thursday, according to authorities.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire broke occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at a home located at 25194 Nanticoke Road. It took 20 minutes for 45 firefighters from the Hebron Volunteer department to control the blaze.

Authorities say the fire was discovered by the homeowner, and that the smoke alarms were present and working. It is believed that it originated in the utility room due to an overheated dryer vent.

No injuries have been reported, but officials are estimating the single-story home sustained approximately $125,000 in damage to the structure, with an additional $15,000 in damage to its contents.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
