MAPP Project Through Delmarva May Go Offline

UNDATED - It appears a controversial high-voltage transmission line has been canceled.

The Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway would have run from Possum Point, Va., through the Chesapeake Bay and end in Sussex County, Del.

PJM is the regional transmission organization behind the initial proposal. An advisory committee is now recommending the project go offline.

"Honestly, five years ago we couldn't have foreseen the downturn in the economy," said Steve Herling, PJM's vice president of planning. "We'll continue to evaluate needs on the system in general."

The group cited a recent data analysis that showed a smaller chance for system overload. PJM's board of directors will make a final decision later this month.
