NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have arrested a woman they say pepper-sprayed a store employee during a robbery attempt.
It happened about 5:50 p.m. Saturday at the Payless Shoe Store in the Crossroads Shopping Center in New Castle. Troopers say a woman walked into the store, grabbed the employee by the hair, demanded money and then pepper-sprayed her.
Police say the suspect tried to open the cash register, but could not and ran away empty-handed.
A security officer saw the suspect get into a car and recorded the license plate number.
Fifty-four-year-old Candace Mills-Brown of Delaware City has been charged with attempted robbery and assault.
