SEAFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a recent incident of car thefts at the Bi Rite auto dealership on Route 13 in Seaford.
Bi Rite Vice President Jack Mullins said three cars were stolen right off the lot, after suspects broke into a garage and took keys to those cars. Later, the cars were found in the neighborhood behind the dealership.
Alarm systems protect the buildings, but those did not stop the thieves. Three cars were found in the Mobile Gardens development after Keith Palmer noticed an unfamiliar car.
"I woke up to go to work one morning and I saw an automobile out there and I knew it wasn't mine," Palmer said.
Palmer alerted the dealership because the cars were still marked.
"I'm surprised all this stuff is going on...because normally it's a pretty decent neighborhood," said Palmer.
As police investigate, Mullins said he hopes the suspects are caught.
"We're more concerned for the community as far as the trailer park close by, for other cars being broken into other stuff being stolen out of cars and everything like that."
Mullins said his business is looking into security cameras to protect the dealership. Police were able to lift prints off the stolen cars when they were found and said the investigation continues into who could have done this.
