David Channell
SALISBURY, Md.– A Quantico man was arrested Thursday following accusations that he left a child unattended in a hot car.
The Wicomico County's Sheriff's Office said that the incident occurred at 11:54 a.m. on Aug. 2. A deputy responded to a report that a 6-year-old girl had been left in a minivan on King Stuart Drive in Salisbury.
Authorities said the vehicle had no air conditioning and the child appeared lethargic and was sweating. The girl was placed in a car with air conditioning, and her guardian returned, reportedly claiming he was chasing down a loose dog.
Deputies identified the suspect as 47-year-old David C. Channell. Police said the child was the daughter of the man's girlfriend.
After an investigation, Channell was arrested at his home in Quantico on Thursday. He is charged with neglect of a minor, confine and unattended child, and reckless endangerment.
Channell was ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bond.
