DOVER, Del. (AP)- A Dover lawyer plans to leave a legislative race after he was suspended from practicing law for six months.

Ron Poliquin was running as a Republican in the 31st Representative District. He said that he needed to concentrate on his family and career.

Poliquin was suspended last week from practicing law after a Supreme Court disciplinary panel found that he violated several rules of professional conduct in his handling of three cases dating to 2008.

According to documents from the proceeding, Poliquin said an addiction to the prescription drug Adderall and another anti-anxiety medication were partly to blame for his poor job performance.

Republican officials say the party has several possible candidates to replace Poliquin and take on incumbent Democratic Rep. Darryl Scott.
