BERLIN, Md.- A Baltimore man is behind bars following accusations that he attacked a Worcester County Sheriff's office deputy and two other police officers early Friday morning.
According to investigators, at around 6 a.m. a sheriff's deputy responded to a complaint about a disorderly person at the Lake Haven Trailer Park in Berlin. Police said when officers arrived on the scene, 38-year-old James Conroy charged the deputy who ordered Conroy to stop. When Conroy proceeded, the deputy shot Conroy with a Taser stun gun. Authorities said the Taser had no effect on Conroy, who then assaulted the deputy.
Members of the Maryland State Police and Berlin Police Department arrived shortly thereafter. Investigators said Conroy continued to fight with officers and the deputy before being eventually taken into custody. The deputy and two additional officers were treated and released at Atlantic General Hospital for minor injuries.
Conroy was charged with assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and is being held on a $50,000 bond. Tests show Conroy was allegedly under the influence of PCP, according to police.
