








Lakewood, NJ – The
Delmarva Shorebirds (21-37) used a three run fourth inning and a strong
six inning start from Zach Davies to defeat the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-2
on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. The Shorebirds ended a six game losing skid with the win.
After
three scoreless innings, the Shorebirds broke onto the scoreboard in
the fourth inning. Gregory Lorenzo, who finished with three hits,
reached on a single. Two batters later, Connor Narron singled. Then,
Michael Ohlman lifted a ground rule double to center field to give the
Shorebirds a 1-0 lead. Ohlman has reached base in 17 straight games.
Lakewood
trimmed the gap to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Aaron Altherr hit a line
drive sacrifice fly to left-center to score Stephen Malcolm, who led off
with a single. Maikel Franco singled home Alejandro Villalobos.
Zach
Davies was perfect over four innings and allowed just five hits over
six strong innings to earn his fifth win. Davies allowed just one hit
over the first five innings on the mound.
In
the eighth, the Shorebirds added an insurance run. Lorenzo led off
with a triple to the right-center field alley. Two batters later,
Narron ripped a single into center field to give the Shorebirds a 4-2
lead.
Alex
Schmarzo entered in the seventh for the Shorebirds and allowed just one
hit over the final three innings to pick up his first save.
Lakewood starter Gabriel Arias was a tough luck loser over seven strong innings. He allowed six hits and three runs.
The Shorebirds play the series finale on Wednesday, August 22 at 7:05pm. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
