ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- A Maryland board has renewed a contract for an initiative to supply used cars to the needy to enable them to get to full-time jobs.
The Maryland Board of Public Works voted 3-0 on Wednesday to renew a 1-year contract for about $330,000, despite some reservations expressed by board members about the number of vehicles provided.
Vehicles for Change Inc. provided only 16 vehicles in a year. It was anticipated the program would provide up to 91 vehicles a year.
Ted Dallas, Maryland's secretary of human resources, says the agency has worked with the contractor to improve. He noted the state only pays on a contract when a car is delivered. Dallas also says the department will look for a new contractor if the current one doesn't get better.
