








Lakewood, NJ – The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-37) scored twice in the tenth inning to defeat the Lakewood BlueClaws (29-29) 6-4 on Wednesday
night at FirstEnergy Park. The Shorebirds have won consecutive games
for the first time in August. They also won their first series since
late July.
Lakewood scored first in the second. Tim Carver singled up the middle to plate Gabriel Lino.
The Shorebirds grabbed the lead in the 5th.
Mychal Givens singled to right-center and reached second on a bobble in
right by Miguel Alvarez. Two batters later, Dudley Leonora reached on a
missed catch at first by Trey Ford. With two outs, Roderick Bernadina
hit a double to deep left field to put the Shorebirds in front 2-1.
Lakewood
knotted the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Alejandro
Villalobos drew a walk and reached second on a wild pitch. After moving
to third on a single by Aaron Altherr, Villalobos scored on a chopper
to first by Kelly Dugan.
Shorebirds
starter Eduardo Rodriguez went five innings and yielded five hits and
two runs, one earned. He did not factor into the decision.
The
Shorebirds regained the lead in the sixth inning. Ohlman drew a lead
off walk. With one out, Sammie Starr doubled to left-center field to
advance Ohlman to third. Mychal Givens hit a chopper to second and
Ohlman beat the throw home from Villalobos to give the Shorebirds the
lead.
In
the bottom of the sixth, the see-saw battle continued. The first two
batters singled against reliever David Baker. Then, Gabriel Lino hit a
liner off the wall in left field to give Lakewood a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Sammie Starr hit a solo home run to left field, his fourth of the year, to tie the game at 4-4.
The
Shorebirds took the lead in the tenth inning. Narron reached on a
walk. Then, Ohlman lined a single to right field that skipped past
Dugan and to the wall, allowed Narron to score from first. Later in the
inning, Starr lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Ohlman to
give the Shorebirds a 6-4 lead.
Jason
McCracken picked up his first save by tossing a scoreless tenth.
Lakewood loaded the bases, but Brian Pointer popped out to third to end
the game.
Gene Escat earned the win over two scoreless innings. He surrendered just one hit.
The Shorebirds travel to Hagerstown, Maryland for game one of a four game series starting on Thursday, August 23.
