BLADES, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on East High Street (SR 20) in Blades.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 8:43 p.m. Saturday night as 43-year-old Javier Aceves of Seaford was operating a 1996 Nissan Maxima westbound on SR 20 approximately a quarter mile west of U.S. Route in Blades. Investigators said that for unknown reasons, the Maxima drove off the north edge of the roadway and continued to travel west until it entered a wooded area. Police said the vehicle then struck several trees, at which point the roof and the driver's side doors were torn from the vehicle. Javier and his 5-year-old son, Cristopher, an unrestrained rear seat passenger, were both ejected from the vehicle, according to police.
Javier Aceves was pronounced dead at the scene. Cristopher Aceves was removed by EMS and initially transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital but later transferred to A.I. DuPont where he is listed in critical condition.
The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident. East High Street was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
