BERLIN, Md.- Thirteen inches of rain in just eight hours. That is the historic amount of rainfall the Town of Berlin in Worcester County saw this weekend.
The rain backed up the town's stormwater system. Police there said water rushed across streets and swept cars into guardrails. Several basements and yards were flooded during the downpour. Berlin residents like Tammy Barcus said there is a lot of damage left to assess.
"Our car in the garage was flooded and we don't have flood insurance," she said. "We're in Berlin, so you don't need flood insurance. So we'll see what happens."
There were no injuries to report. But, both fire and police officials said vehicles were damaged while rescuing stranded drivers during the weekend storms.
