Christopher F. Littleton
SALISBURY, Md.- Police have arrested a Fruitland man accused of leaving his dog locked up inside a hot vehicle for an extended length of time.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said that on Tuesday morning, a deputy responded to a report of a dog inside an enclosed vehicle in the parking lot of Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury.
Police said that when the deputy arrived, the dog was observed to be inside a locked vehicle without access to any fresh air or water. Witnesses reportedly told the deputy that the dog had been in this state for at least 20 minutes. The dog appeared in distress to the deputy, police said.
While the deputy was trying to assist the dog, police said its owner, 30-year-old Christopher F. Littleton, returned. Police said the deputy placed Littleton under arrest for leaving the dog enclosed in the locked vehicle on a hot day where the air temperature had already reached 86 degrees.
Littleton was charged with animal cruelty and released on personal recognizance.
