REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Rehoboth Beach police say two people have been bitten by a rabid fox.

Police said that at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, they received a call about a fox displaying strange behavior in the area of Park Avenue.  An officer responded but the animal was gone.

A call was then received about someone being bitten by a fox on Pennsylvania Avenue. While en route, the officer received another call of a second person being bitten in the area of Oak Avenue. The officer arrived to search for the animal. Police said that once located, the fox charged aggressively at the officer and was shot and killed.  Animal Control arrived to pick the animal up for testing. Both victims were taken to Beebe Hospital for treatment and released.

After the fox tested positive for rabies, the Delaware Division of Public Health contacted the two victims.

Police are cautioning residents never to approach animals behaving in a strange or aggressive manner.
